How does the treatment work?

Anti-wrinkle injections are injected into a muscle using ultra fine needles. The medicine blocks the nerve impulses needed for muscles to contract. As repetitive muscle use causes expression lines, the injections soften wrinkles.

Who can benefit?

Anti-wrinkle injections have a multitude of uses both cosmetic and medical. They can smooth frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. They can enhance gummy smile, soften a downturned mouth and subtly reshape lips to improve your pout. The nose can be made slightly slimmer and the tip can be lifted. Injections can improve the jawline – the ‘Nefertiti lift’ and improve ‘tech neck’. We can treat excessive sweating, chronic migraine, muscle spasms, eyelid twitches, squints, neuralgia (nerve pain) and even teeth grinding!

Is treatment painful?

The treatment is an injectable, however at Eye and Face we make every effort to minimise discomfort. We take the time to prepare our patient with numbing cream, use the finest needles available, make up the toxin with premium antibacterial saline (which is known to make the treatment more comfortable) and administer the injections gently and smoothly.

What is the downtime?

Minimal! We advise that you delay applying makeup for 12 hours afterwards and strenuous exercise for 24 hours. However it is a walk-in, walk-out procedure.

Why choose Eye and Face?

First of all we are a stand alone clinic. Our treatment is administered by Dr Janice who has over 15 years experience in giving this treatment and is a trained ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeon. She specialises in an elegant and natural effect. Her mantra is ‘nothing must be noticed’. We allow time for an in-depth consultation and promise to give you honest advice regarding treatment recommendations. We use the highest quality products – the brand that is most associated with this treatment which is manufactured in Ireland! There are studies going back over 30 years monitoring the safety profile of this medication.

Is it safe?

Yes, it is an FDA approved treatment for improving wrinkles. However it is contraindicated in patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding or those who have certain neurological conditions.

How soon will I see results?

Typically it takes 3 days for the treatment to start working and 10-14 days for the full effect to be seen.

How long does it last?

Typically, results last approximately 3  months although this is variable depending on the individual. Some oral zone supplements have been shown to lengthen the effect.

I’m attending a special event and want to have anti-wrinkle injections to freshen my face. When should I have it?

The maximum affect takes place at 10-14 days and lasts 3-4 months. If you have a small bruise this usually lasts 5-7 days. We usually suggest you time your treatment for one month beforehand to allow time for any ‘top-up’ to take effect.

Will I look frozen afterwards?

Here at Eye and Face we actively avoid the ‘done’ or ‘frozen’ look. New patients have administered anti-wrinkle injections in two stages. We start with a conservative treatment at the first visit and bring them back approximately two weeks later for review. If required we give a free top-up. This allows us to titrate the treatment to the individual providing a naturally refreshed look.

What happens if I stop having anti-wrinkle injections? Will I look worse than before? Some people tell me that once you start having it, you can never stop.

This is not the case. You can stop treatment at any time and the skin in the treated area will return to normal.

Can men have anti-wrinkle treatments?

Of course! However they require different doses and patterns of injections to provide the best results i.e. effective without feminisation. Dr Janice has extensive experience in dealing with male patients and prides herself in delivering the best possible result for each individual.
