Excessive Sweating – Hyperhidrosis

Excessive Sweating

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is the condition whereby an individual has abnormally increased or excessive perspiration or sweating which can occur on any part of the body, although the most commonly affected sites are the hands, feet, armpits and groin area. Hyperhidrosis usually starts in childhood or adolescence and can continue well into adulthood and beyond.

Treatment

Hyperhidrosis can be treated using muscle relaxing injections (Botox®) to the target area. These act to inhibit the sweat glands in that particular area only and it does not increase sweating in areas not treated.  This treatment lasts 4 to 6 months.
